Anastrozole (Arimidex) 1mg Wockhardt is a non-steroidal oral aromatase inhibiting drug (AI) which is used to control bloating and water retention by athletes and bodybuilders.
It falls under a category of drugs known as Aromatase Inhibitor. It functions by lowering the estradiol concentrations in the blood which slows down the tumour growth and size. Thus, it is used to treat breast cancer in post-menopausal women.
It has also been used to treat male adolescents that exhibit excessive Estrogen levels during puberty, resulting in unwanted pubertal gynecomastia. Excessive Estrogen levels in adolescent males during puberty can often result in stunted growth due to the fact that Estrogen plays a key role in fusing the growth plates of the bones shut, preventing any further linear growth, and Anastrozole has also been used to treat these conditions as well.
It has also been medically used by bodybuilders. It has been utilised to lower Estrogen levels and blocks production of the aromatase enzyme, thus, preventing estradiol generation at the earliest stages.
